‘CTM BioTech is pleased to announce the recent acquisition of the company by Alpha Biologics (www.alphabiologics.com).
Alpha Biologics is a cGMP contract manufacturer of mammalian cell secreted proteins for use in pre-clinical and Phase 1 & Phase 2 clinical trials.
Their cGMP facility, currently under construction and due to be operational by the end of this year, is on the Penang BIOtech Park, Malaysia and is managed by staff with extensive experience of the cGMP contract manufacturing business gained in Europe and the United States.
Alpha’s process development group will be based on the CTM site at the Babraham Research Campus, in the heart of the Cambridge Bioscience cluster, England.
Alpha’s aim is to enable their clients to achieve the two major objectives facing the life sciences industry today in order to sustain growth:
- Reduce the ‘research to market’ development time
- Reduce the manufacturing costs of biologics drugs
Alpha provides services from cell line generation, including stability and optimisation studies, GMP cell banking, upstream and downstream manufacturing process development and cGMP manufacture for clinical trials in Europe, North America and Asia.
Processes will be developed in England and then transferred to the Penang facility for the final process development run(s) and cGMP manufacture. The lower cost base of the Penang facility enables Alpha to provide full FDA / EMEA cGMP compliant manufacturing services at highly competitive prices that in turn enable our clients to reduce the cost of their drug development programmes.
In addition to mammalian process development work, the Cambridge facility will also continue to offer process development using bacterial, yeast and insect cell expression systems.’
